Now that you have made it to Saint Lucia, how do you even get around the island? These modes of transportation in St. Lucia are the best ways to get around.

Many all-inclusive resorts will offer a shuttle service to their location. But in the case where your hotel doesn’t offer this or you are staying at a vacation rental home, then you might need to get a taxi.

But which transportation works best for you might depend on what part of St. Lucia you decide to stay.

Taxi drivers will stand outside the arrivals door at the airport. The price will differ depending on how far your accommodation is. Just be sure to agree on a price before hopping in. Do note, they don’t accept credit cards, so be sure to have USD or pick up some Eastern Caribbean Dollars (St. Lucia’s Local Currency) in the airport.

Just to give you an upper benchmark, a 1.5-hour ride from Hewanorra International Airport to Rodney Bay (nearly the entire length of the island) is about US$75 to $100.  Shorter local rides will probably be between $15-$50.

There are rental car companies at the airport. But first, read our detailed review for getting a rental car in St. Lucia. The roads can be quite intimidating. First, St. Lucian’s drive on the left (which was difficult for us US citizens). But they also have large drainage gaps on each side of the road. If one tire goes off track, the vehicle is deep in a ditch.

But overall, we were happy we rented a car to get to some more of the off-the-beaten-path attractions on our own schedule.

The benefit of using taxis is that you can rely on the experience of local professional drivers to take you to your destination safely and efficiently.
