Hanksville is a small town in Utah, but despite its size, there are actually 3 awesome restaurants in town. Many of these popular stops fuel tourists on their way to Lake Powell, Capitol Reef National Park, Goblin Valley, or visitors heading North toward Moab or Salt Lake City. Each of these Hanksville Utah Restaurants offers different cuisines and provides quality ingredients. Let’s dive in.
Outlaw’s Roost:
Outlaw’s Roost is a Mexican-fusion restaurant right in the heart of town. The sign out front says Burritos, Tacos, Margaritas, Cold Brew, and Free Wifi! As a digital nomad or tourists passing thru, what more could you ask for?
Upon ordering, we were greeted with friendly service right away. Employees will help you with just about anything, and even give you recommendations on the menu.
The Outlaw’s Roost has a wide variety of burritos, tacos, or choice of a bowl. You can choose from various different meats, toppings, and homemade sauces. Portions were pretty generous in all categories. Everything is cooked to order with fresh local ingredients.
They have divine homemade margaritas and a great selection of craft beers (although you are in Utah, so they are all 5% abv or under).
Outlaw’s Roost is easy counter-service. You can take your food for the road or enjoy the view from their indoor and outdoor seating area.
Outlaw’s Roost is open for lunch & dinner, Thursday-Monday, from 11am-9pm. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
Stan’s Burger Shak:
Stan’s Burger Shak is a staple in Hanksville, serving all-American cuisine. They’ve been around for nearly 40 years. Stan’s is counter-service and paired with a local gas station and convenience store.
Grab a juicy burger with their “special burger sauce” and pair it with a large shake. And by large, I mean they fill the cup up past the brim!
They also serve a variety of different sandwiches and wraps. Their fries might be some of my all-time favorite. They are nice and crispy, which is my personal preference.
Stan’s claims to use the freshest ingredients around, so you can count on getting quality food.
They have great seating both indoors or outdoors. Just order at the counter and they will read off your # when your food is ready. We suggest sitting outside for the best views.
You can even order online if you are in a rush. But food came really quickly even just ordering the normal way.
Stan’s Burger Shak is open every day of the week for lunch and dinner, from 10am-10pm, (except Sunday they open at 12pm).
Duke’s Slickrock Grill:
Duke’s Slickrock Grill is the barbecue restaurant in town. This Hanksville Utah restaurant has a Western vibe, and heavy John Wayne theme to it. Which really matches the middle-of-no-where town feel.
This is the only place that offers sit-down service with wait staff. So if you are looking for a sit-down meal and to be waited on, this is the best (only) option.
Duke’s is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, every day of the week from 7am to 10pm.
The menu has many different tasty BBQ style cuisines. A staple on their menu is the smoked brisket or smoked meats platter. But the best part is the cornbread appetizer served with honey butter. If you’re looking for another good appetizer, consider the cowboy stew.
Service is always friendly, and you can always ask for local recommendations.
