There isn’t an abundance of breweries on the island of Maui, so our best suggestion is to make a little brewery tour and visit them all! Assuming you landed on this page because you love beer, just like us! And let’s just say, we were very impressed with the breweries in Maui!
Each brewery has a wide selection of great beers you gotta try! The three different breweries on the island are Maui Brewing Company, Waikiki Brewing Company and Kohola Brewery. All three are located on the Northwest side of Maui, but one has a couple of locations.
If you are staying in Lahaina, HI, you can easily visit all three and make it a brewery tour. Of course only if you have a DD or plan to get an uber or taxi. But all three breweries are located in Lahaina (plus Maui Brewing Company has another location near Kihei.
Brewery Tour Of The Best Breweries In Maui:
There is the option of a Maui Brewery Tours for $199 which will bring you around to all the different breweries on the island.
You can choose between a lunch tour or a dinner tour where a meal is provided by Maui Brewing Company. Each tour starts at Maui Brewing Company and provides a tour and tasting flight at each brewery.
After the first tour, you will move onto the other breweries. The tour guide will then bring you back to Maui Brewing Company toward the end of the tour. The entire tour is about 5 hours long.
This is a great deal when you include the food and transportation. But you can definitely save some money if you do your own brewery tour.
Maui Brewing Company:
The most famous and largest craft brewery in Maui is Maui Brewing Company. There are two locations in Maui, one in Lahaina and another in Kihei.
No matter where you go out to eat in Maui there will most likely be a couple Maui Brewing Company beers on tap, and for a good reason. They have some stellar beers to choose from.
So if you don’t make it to one of the two locations, you will definitely be able to try their beer from a local restaurant or pick up a six pack from a local grocery store.
Whether you like beers on the lighter side, a dark porter, or something in between, we simply loved them all! Some of our personal favorites were the Pineapple Mana Wheat, Big Swell IPA and the Coconut Porter.
Maui Brewing Company was founded in 2005, and quickly outgrew its first location as the demand for the beer grew. It is now sold in 15 different states, so if you find a favorite, you might be able to pick up a six-pack back home.
If you aren’t interested in the 5-hour long brewery tour listed above, you can still tour the Maui Brewing Company on it’s own. The cost is $15-$20 or you can book a private tour for $300.
And like mentioned above there is food at both locations of Maui Brewing Company. You can check out their menu’s here: Lahaina Menu & Kihei Menu
Waikiki Brewing Company:
Waikiki Brewing Company is also another popular brewery on the island. You can find their beer also at most restaurants or at the local grocery stores.
The brewery is located in Lahaina which is on the Northwest side of the Island.
Personally, they have one of the best views with ocean waves crashing just across the street from the front door. You might even be able to see a whale breaching in the distance!
The inside shares maintains that industrial feel of a brewery but with epic views out the front door that are much different than the other breweries on the island.
Waikiki Brewing Company is relatively new as they opened their doors in 2015, and have quickly expanded as the demand has increased. And we can totally understand because their beer was very refreshing!
They have a wide selection of great beers to choose from. And even some unique beer cocktails. Some of our personal favorites from the brewery were the Skinny Jeans IPA, Lahaina Lunatic Lilikoi Sour, and Aloha Spirit Blonde Ale.
There are also some great food options at Waikiki Brewing Company. The smell of smoked meats roam through the brewery making your mouth water. Check out their menu here: Lahaina Waikiki Brewery Menu
Kohola Brewery:
Kohola Brewery is also located in Lahaina on the Northwest side of the Island. This brewery might not have the best view out of the three, but I think this brewery won when it comes to our favorite brewery in Maui.
It really gave you that no-frills brewery warehouse feel, while still cutely decorated and their selection of beers quickly won us over. The doors were wide open bringing in that warm ocean air, so you basically felt close to the ocean anyways.
Kohola Brewery is known for it’s clean, well-balanced and very drinkable beers. We went with a group of people, so we were able to try a wide variety of beers from the Pineapple Blonde, Lokahi Pilsner, Talk Story Pale Ale, Mean Bean Coffee Stout, and my personal favorite Lahaina Haze.
We even picked up a couple 6 packs and souvenir silicone cups, so we could bring the brewery home with us!
And if you are traveling with a group and someone isn’t really into beer, they have some tasty looking cocktails. Jake also tried one of their NA tropical kombuchas and loved it. So there really is something for everyone.
Kohola Brewery doesn’t have a restaurant, but you are welcome to bring your own food if you like!
Mahalo Aleworks
A new brewery in town is Mahalo Aleworks. The location is in upcountry Maui, which offers a great view out to the coast. All beers are 100% made from local Hawaiian ingredients.
Yeast is collected from the slopes of Haleakala.
They also offer their own brewery tour and guided tasting.
Takeaway | Must Visit Breweries In Maui, HI:
If you couldn’t tell, Jake and I love visiting new breweries whenever we visit new places. And with just the few different selections of breweries in Maui, we were thoroughly impressed.
We highly suggest trying out all three breweries if you can, because all three offer some unique and refreshing beers.
