These Nissan NV200 camper conversions will show you what’s possible with these little vans. Whether you are just looking for inspiration for your own DIY van conversion or a professional Nissan NV200 conversion, this post can help.
The Nissan NV200 is a small panel van designed for maximum cargo space packed into a fuel-efficient package. These car-based city-oriented vans are easy to drive and park, but big enough for some sweet van conversions.
Compared to full-size vans, they are cheaper to buy, maintain, and get excellent gas mileage. That’s why micro campers are always going to be the popular option for people interested in living mini-vanlife.
Nissan NV200 comes as an empty cargo van or a passenger van with passenger seats and windows in back.
Note: The Nissan NV200 van is no longer produced for the North American market. You will not be able to buy them new anymore, but you can still scoop a great deal on a used Nissan NV200. (Here are some great websites for buying used vans for sale).
And also worth noting is that the Chevrolet City Express (also discontinued) is just a rebadged Nissan NV200. So they are effectively identical and should be on your radar if you are looking to buy one of these vans.
Price For A Nissan NV200 Camper
If you are looking to buy a used Nissan NV200, they have an average cost between $15,000 – $24,000. Very lightly used ones carry a higher price tag, sometimes nearly $30,000. And vans with over 150,000 miles can cost as little as $5,000 – $10,000.
Converting a Nissan NV200 Van
Most Nissan NV200 campers follow a similar layout with a narrow bed down one side. There is enough height inside the stock van to have the bed raised a little bit. And most people can still sit up in bed without hitting their head.
Some opt for a convertible system of a bed that can convert into a couch. Half of the bed can be used as a cushion for the “back” of the couch. This way it can function as a comfortable place to sit during the day, leaving a corridor of space in the van. But at night it extends to a wider bed, closer to a twin mattress.
Using a smaller bed leaves plenty of space for other parts of your conversion. Raising the bed provides some nice storage space underneath for personal belongings.
On the opposite wall, it’s common to fit in a small kitchenette with a small countertop, sink, freshwater tank, gray water tank, and portable camp stove.
However some “fair weather” Nissan NV200 campervans may opt for an outdoor kitchen. A popular outdoor kitchen setup is a slide-out kitchenette that comes out of the back doors or sliding doors.
Some other great additions can include a portable cassette toilet, some storage cabinets installed in the upper corners, a small table for eating or working, and a solar panel for off-grid electricity.
A pop-up roof is an expensive but awesome addition to expand the living space. Soft-sided pop tops can greatly increase the interior height of the van when parked, without any of the negatives of a taller vehicle (parking, wind resistance, etc.)
